There are many different varieties of Basil. The Indian variety is also known as basil Krishna, because it is said that Krishna wore garlands of this herb around his neck to increase his detachment and his faith. The faithful continue this practice, believing basil to be a protector in life and after death. Ayurvedics have used Basil to treat stomach, kidney, and blood ailments.

HOW TO USE

Basil reduces Kapha, and Vátha, and increases Pitta. It has a strong effect on your emotion, and can ease fear or sadness. Use a homemade infusion as an acne remedy. Steep 3 teaspoons of dried leaves in 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 20 minutes. Apply with a cotton ball to freshly washed skin, or drink up to 3 cups of the tea per day as an internal antibacterial treatment.

BLENDS WELL WITH: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Fennel, Ginger, Geranium, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, and Neroli.
